Farm Lets Guests Spend A Night With A Horse

Enjoy a bit of horse-ing around on your holidays but sick of being saddled with the usual dull tourist excursions and package trips? Greenbank Farm in Cumbria may have the answer for you.

Located near the village of Cartmel, the farm is near plenty of pubs, restaurants and independent shops selling a range of home made of products, including an apparently famous Sticky Toffee shop.

It's in the beautiful Lake District region of Cumbria, with Lake Windermere just a short drive away. So far, so lovely.

However, it's the accommodation that Greenbank Farm offer that would make you, um, foal-ish not to consider a stay. That's because inventive farm owners have turned their stables into rooms, complete with bunk beds and divided into sections so that guests can sleep right by the farm's ponies.

You can even feed the horses without having to leave your bed.

This admittedly slightly unnerving experience sees the guest kitted out with a double and single bunk bed, a mini kitchen with a fridge, hob and microwave, and an ensuite wet room with a shower and toilet.

It's possible for up to three people to stay in each stable, while dogs are also apparently welcome. Each room has a see-through divider so you can see directly into the horse's sleeping quarters, which contain an automatic water feeder and haynet.

That's not all either. You can feed your horse snacks should you desire, while it's also possible to access a luxury grooming kit should you really want to spend some quality time with the pet pony. Personally, we draw the line at helping with the mucking out although should you wish to this too is possible.

One thing that isn't included in all of this is what most people would expect to do with horses: riding them. For that, would-be jockeys need to get in touch with the family who own Greenbank Farm directly in order to organise.

Still, once you've fed them, pampered them and taken closer inspection of their sanitary situation, you might well be happy to have a bit of space from them.

Prices for this holiday start from £250.
