An American woman opened fire and shot three McDonald's employees because she was told that she couldn't sit down in the seating area because of the coronavirus outbreak.

The alleged shooter, who police identified as 32-year-old Gloricia Woody, drew her gun and began firing at the fast food in Oklahoma City when told that the seating area was closed on Wednesday evening.

One person was hit in the arm, and the other two were struck by shrapnel. One was injured in the neck, and the other in the side.

Woody wanted to have a sit down meal, but became incredibly aggressive when she was told go get a take-out. Then, once she was asked to leave, she allegedly shot at the three teenage staff members.

The three victims of the gun attack were taken to hospital for treatment, but their injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

A fourth person was also injured in an altercation with Woody that took place before she started shooting. That injury is thought to be a head injury, but is also not thought to be life threatening.

After the incident, Woody fled the scene but was brought into police custody without incident once they managed to track her down not that far from the McDonald's restaurant.

According to reports from NewsOn6, the entire shooting incident is thought to have been captured on video by the restaurant's security camera system.

The charges against Woody are currently pending.

A spokesperson for McDonald's USA said: "The safety and security of our employees and customers is our top priority.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with all those involved and the good news is that we can report the employees who sustained injuries are expected to make a full recovery.

"This is a heinous crime on our restaurant employees who were trying to support public health efforts. We are fully cooperating with law enforcement as they continue to investigate this matter."

So far, more than 4,200 people have become infected with Covid-19 in the state of Oklahoma, and 253 people have died there as a result.

The USA currently has the world's largest death toll as a result of the virus, yet there have been protests in several cities against the lockdown measures that have been put in place.
