Google Maps User Spots Huge Wooden 'Pirate Ship' Off The Coast Of Brazil

An eagle-eyed Google Maps user has spotted a huge ‘pirate ship’ off the coast of Brazil - but Jack Sparrow was nowhere to be seen.

The large wooden boat has four masts and appears to have been designed to perfectly replicate a traditional ‘pirate ship’, which looks all the more bizarre when you see it next to the very modern high-rise buildings in the background.

The ship was spotted by Reddit user u/Layzusss who shared it on the r/googlemapsshennanigans subreddit, where people have attempted to identify what it is.

If you’re anything like me, you’ll be sad to learn it’s not a ghost ship but is most likely a tourist boat, designed to ferry customers about in swashbuckling-style.

One Reddit user commented: “Many beach resorts in Brazil have these pirate-looking ships to carry tourists around islands and nearby beaches.”

Another Reddit user sent a link to a ‘Pirate Bay Cruise’ that runs in the same area the boat was spotted.

It promises visitors: “Travel back in time and board a traditional style pirate ship and sail around Balneário bay to one of the most beautiful beaches in the region, Laranjeiras.”

Last year, a fellow Google Maps user reckoned he had discovered a gigantic 'ice ship' lying on an iceberg just off the coast of the Antarctic.

The 400ft-long structure did bear a resemblance to a large ship and even appeared to have chimneys.

It was spotted by a self-professed 'Earth watchman' and YouTuber MrMBB333, who said: "You look down on it and it looks like the outline of a ship.

"This one here measures over 400ft long - 428ft to be exact.

"Whatever that is, that looks like a ship. An ice ship, whatever you want to call it, that's what it looks like: a 400ft yacht just sitting there off the coast of Antarctica."

The YouTuber explains the 'ice ship' sits just below New Zealand, around 100 miles off the shore of Antarctica.

Other YouTube users are equally fascinated by the find, with one commenting on the video: "That does look like a YACHT FOR REAL!!!"

Another wrote: "Omg! I LOVVVVE Antarctica content! One of the MOST Interesting/Mysterious places on this Earth!!"

A third said: "I have heard people say that after WWII there has been a lot of movement in Antarctica; like military movement, not sure but it would not surprise me. Thank you for sharing such fantastic photos and such interesting and questionable things out there @MrMBB333."
