Melania Trump sends 'private' letter to Putin during high-stakes summit in Alaska

White House officials said President Donald Trump hand-delivered the letter

Russian President Vladimir Putin was reportedly presented with a personal letter from his US counterpart's wife at their high-stakes meeting in Alaska.

Taking place at Anchorage's Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, yesterday's (15 August) three-hour summit marked the first time Putin and Donald Trump had come face-to-face with each other in years.

Although they couldn't agree on ceasefire terms - Trump wants the Russians to pull out of their war with Ukraine, which has been raging for over three years now - it's believed that Melania Trump did get the opportunity to let Putin know exactly how she feels about the children of Ukraine.

According to White House officials, she got her husband to hand-deliver a letter to Putin.

The contents of this letter remain mostly private, but the First Lady reportedly raised concerns over the safety of Ukrainian kids who've been taken from their homeland by the Russians, without parental consent, in a move that's been described as a war crime, per Reuters.

Russia had claimed that these tens of thousands of youngsters were removed from Ukraine to protect them from the war zones.

The Slovenian-American may have helped convince her husband to increase military aid for Ukraine, while Trump himself previously discussed how his wife highlighted that Putin rarely keeps his promises when it comes to peace deal arrangements.

"I go home, I tell the First Lady, ‘You know, I spoke to Vladimir today. We had a wonderful conversation.’ She said, ‘Oh, really? Another city was just hit,’" the 79-year-old told reporters last month.

Meanwhile, the meeting between Trump and Putin appeared to be slightly overshadowed by the body language of the two world leaders.

Well aware of the global media glare on this moment, Trump seemed to seize the opportunity to 'dominate' the Russian president in front of the cameras.

Both men had exited their private aircraft before strolling down red carpeted steps and reuniting for the first time in years out on the Anchorage tarmac.

The POTUS made sure to get a firm grip of Putin when they embraced for a handshake, and social media users reckon it was an obvious 'power play'.

As well as seemingly pulling Putin towards him, Trump proceeded to pat the 72-year-old's hand.

One person said in a post on X: "The handshake looks a bit aggressive: Trump pulled Putin closer, showing off his strength."

Another wrote: "Trump just hitting Vladimir Putin with the ICONIC ALPHA HANDSHAKE as they stepped off their planes!"

A third said: "President Trump DOES THE YANK HANDSHAKE! He pulled in Putin's hand!"

After Trump finally loosened his grip on Putin, the pair briefly paused for some photos and listened to a handful of questions from reporters.

The Russian leader was pressed to answer whether he would 'agree to a ceasefire' by the waiting press, but he kept schtum on this matter. Putin and Trump then climbed into the same car and headed off to commence talks.

The duo were later pictured sitting next to one another at the summit in front of a backdrop displaying the words 'Pursuing Peace' and 'Alaska 2025'.
