PSA: There’s a new protein snack on the market and it sounds unreal

Raise your hand if you’ve ever been let down by a protein bar, ball or bite.

Dry, chalky, weirdly chewy or just plain disgusting, finding a protein snack that actually tastes good has at times been about as easy as finding a needle in a haystack.

It’s a huge missed opportunity, too. Studies show that one in five Brits* are actively seeking out high-protein options to fit their busy schedules, while 41 percent plan** to increase their protein intake over the next year

It’s hardly surprising, then, that something new is coming.

Doritos recently took to social media to apologise for all the questionable tastes and textures we’ve endured just because a snack had “high protein” on it. Well, it turns out they weren’t just feeling sorry for us – they were gearing up to do something about it.

Yep, Doritos has gone and created its very own protein chip, and they’re due to hit shelves this month.

And that’s not even the best bit.

Not only do Doritos Protein pack 10g of protein into every bag, but they’re made from a light-and-crunchy blend of popped soya, lentils and corn, are high in fibre and contain 30 percent less fat than regular tortilla chips – all while delivering the signature bold flavour and crunch you’d expect from Doritos. In other words, this is one protein snack where you won’t have to grin and bear it through the chews.

Oh, and they’ve even given us two flavours to choose from – Sweet Chilli Chipotle and Sizzling Steak – both of which sound considerably more exciting than your usual protein snack.

If you can’t wait to get your hands on a pack, Doritos Protein will be launching this September at Sainsbury’s, Waitrose, WHSmith, Boots, One Stop, Amazon, Ocado and TikTok Shop, with additional stockists like Asda Express coming soon. Depending on where you shop, you might even be able to get them as part of a meal deal.

What a time to be alive.
