Queen Elizabeth II Sends Message To England Women's Team After They Won Euro 2022

Queen Elizabeth II Sends Message To England Women's Team After They Won Euro 2022

The British monarch said the huge win will be an 'inspiration' for girls across the country.

Queen Elizabeth II has sent a message to the England Women's team after they won the Euro 2022 championship.

It's officially coming home after the Lionesses defeated Germany 2-1 thanks to a goal in extra time.

The country is absolutely buzzing over the result and they've received a huge shoutout from the British monarch.

"My warmest congratulations, and those of my family, go to you all on winning the European Women's Football Championships," Her Majesty wrote.

"It is a significant achievement for the entire team, including your support staff.

"The Championships and your performance in them have rightly won praise.

"However, your success goes far beyond the trophy you have so deservedly earned.

"You have all set an example that will be an inspiration for girls and women today, and for future generations.

"It is my hope that you will be as proud of the impact you have had on your sport as you are of the result today."

Both sides had a bunch of chances to score as the game edged closer to the final whistle.

But in the 110th minute, Manchester City forward Chloe Kelly found the back of the net to score her first international goal and the game's winner.

People are now calling for there to be an official day off to allow everyone in England a proper chance to celebrate.

It's certainly the least the Lionesses deserve and would allow the country to celebrate the win just how it should, with a good and proper sesh.

Labour leader Keir Starmer was well up for the idea ahead of final.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror, he said: “The whole country will be roaring on the Lionesses in the final on Sunday.

"They have already done us proud, but if they win it will be a truly historic achievement - one that should be marked with a proper day of celebration, where clubs can open and promote access for women and girls.”

And of course you remember the men's final last year when Boris Johnson didn't exactly rule the idea out, responding to a petition he said: "I think that would be tempting fate; let's see what happens."

The message is loud and clear, and some people even want it to come as soon as tomorrow.

Probably because they'll be nursing a sore head from the absolute scenes witnessed around the country.
