Ryan Reynolds continues tradition and absolutely roasts wife Blake Lively on her birthday

Ryan Reynolds has continued his tradition of roasting his wife, Blake Lively, on her birthday.

We're going to be bold and say that Ryan and Blake are our favourite celebrity couple - large in part because of their banter.

Over the past several years, we've seen the pair take the mickey out of every birthday, relationship milestone, and holiday.

Thankfully, this year was no exception, because as tributes poured in for Blake, Ryan decided to share a series of snaps with the caption: "Happy Birthday, @blakelively. You’re spectacular. I’m not sure if you were born or invented. Also, thank you for urging me to leave the house every now and again."

Seems sweet right? So, what part of this carried the couple's special tradition? Lettuce.

On Blake's face, in a snap of her sleeping. Yep, nothing says 'I love you' like some limp lettuce leaves.

People were quick to chime in on the post, with Blake's sister Robyn saying: "I always said lettuce green was her color. She never listened to me."

Another Instagram user was way too overwhelmed by the couple's cuteness: "Bye y'all this is too much cuteness for me in one night they unreal."

A third really enjoyed the sneaky troll: "Happy birthday Blake!! And I was waiting to see a photo that wouldn't be flattering and well played @vancityreynolds loved the pic hahaha."

The post is far more subtle than Ryan's previous, which in the past included cropping Blake out of a photo almost entirely.

But Blake got her own back by posting a photo on Ryan's birthday of him and Ryan Gosling, with a similar cropping situation.

It's not just birthday tributes, though, because Blake was pretty quick to inject a little humour into their wedding anniversary.

On the day of their anniversary, Ryan posted a picture of himself on a truck. Not super romantic we know, but it was a promotion for his Aviation Gin company.

This led to Blake hilariously replying under the photo with: "Who needs a mini van?! I'm driving this from now on. Subtle, gorgeous, and OHMYGAWDYOUREHUGE."

Yep, the couple really know how to show up for each other. Hilarious birthday messages aside, it seemed like Blake had a great time celebrating, sharing a picture with her sister during a day out in Disney Land, with the caption: "Find me a happier place on earth to start my birthday celebrations early. 💖 I’ll wait…"
