After scoring the first goal just minutes into Portugal's game against Spain in today's World Cup match, Ronaldo went on to win himself a hat-trick with an incredible free kick that might just go down in history as one of this tournament's greatest moments.

Praise has been flooding in for the footballer on social media, where Ronaldo has become the hot topic of conversation:

Even ol' Rio was left breathless by the action in Russia:

Peter Schmeichel also tweeted to say that it was 'one of the best matches' he'd seen in a World Cup, adding: "Big players all stepping up to the challenge, and for the week Spain have had, they did fantastic. What a team but they only managed to get a draw against @Cristiano."

Cristiano Ronaldo was cool, calm and collected from the penalty spot to put Portugal ahead after just three minutes - but it was the last-minute banger of a free kick that most of us will remember, bringing Portugal back up to a draw in the moments that really mattered.

Incredible scenes - what a game. Whatever you think of the man, you can't deny that was one solid performance.
