Viewers are not impressed by Paris Olympics opening ceremony as they brand it ‘worst ever’

They haven't been impressed by the first Olympic opening ceremony to be held outside a stadium

People are all thinking one thing while watching the opening ceremony for this summer's games.

The Paris 2024 Olympics opening ceremony has given us a few noteworthy talking points so far this evening (26 July), from Lady Gaga's rendition in original french of Mon Truc en Plumes, the death of the Minions (for some reason), and the numerous boats bringing the Olympic teams in.

Originally kicking off at 6:30pm UK time, the ceremony is slated to last over three hours, with more musical and dance acts to come, including a duet with Lady Gaga and Celine Dion.

Despite being the first Olympic opening ceremony to not be held in a stadium, fans don't seem best pleased with its results thus far.

As the rain began to pour down mid-way through the opening ceremony, fans took to X to share their thoughts on the show.

One user shared: "This #OpeningCeremony is an absolute shocker. So desperate, zero atmosphere, random boats, no focus, awful Gaga song... It's so painfully poor. This is the Olympics!! It's like a local carnival."

Another said: "I’m actually embarrassed on the behalf of France, this is going down as the worst opening ceremony in history."

A third commented: "I’m sorry but this has to be the worst Olympic opening ceremony in memory. It’s an interesting idea bringing the athletes in on boats but it looks rubbish and misses the roar of the crowd. Sorry but not for me."

And a different user posted: "No offence France, but the boat idea was a terrible one."

Fans also didn't love the inclusion of Lady Gaga in the ceremony, sharing their thoughts on social media too.

Users pointed out that there were other singers from France who could have been in her place.

Writing on X, one user said: "Does France not have any singers? Why is lady gaga the best choice for singing in french"

Another put: "Personally, I think that having Lady Gaga singing for you when she's not French, is cheating."

While a third critically commented: "I don't know if Lady Gaga sings French or if she sings in Sims language..."

However, others thought that she did alright.

Someone else said: "Okay but Lady Gaga singing in french?! Pretty good honestly. Her accent is pretty spot on."

As well as this, the Minions seemed to have drowned in a segment where they were being their usual silly selves, trying their hand at some sports.

But people weren't pleased with the outcome with this either.

One said: "All those Minions just drowned to death and they’re just carrying on like nothing happened. Unacceptable behaviour from the French imo"

Another put: "The Minions literally just destroyed the Mona Lisa by putting it into river. Yet I’m sure people will still want to celebrate them and laugh at their antics. I’m so f**king done."
