Slowed down footage shows 'diabolical' punch that brutally knocked down Conor Benn

Slow motion footage has revealed the full intensity of the right hand punch that Ryan Garcia used to defeat Conor Benn.

The pair had met in the ring, with Garcia retaining his WBC welterweight championship after Garcia won on a TKO after two rounds at the match in Las Vegas.

Benn was able to beat the count after the punch, which fans described as 'diabolical' on social media, but Garcia would keep up the pressure on the ropes until the referee intervened.

UFC Español showed a slowed down replay of the blow, with Benn advancing on Garcia, before being caught in the face by the brutal right hand and falling to the ground.

Taking to X, one fan wrote: "Slow motion is so diabolical. Conor Benn crumbled like a piece of paper."

Meanwhile, another posted: The slow-mo somehow makes Ryan Garcia’s right hand look WORSE."

They added: "Conor Benn is still coming forward when Ryan plants, fires the counter and catches him completely flush on the chin."

Speaking to DAZN after the fight, Garcia said: "I knew he would bring the pressure, I felt the shots and though 'I'll let him have his way', but I knew his was reckless and you can't do that with me. 147lb is my division. I'm here, you can trust me as a champion."

Garcia, from the US, dominated the fight, while UK fighter Benn ended it with the second defeat in 10-year-long-career.

Benn had previously said that regardless of the result this would be his final appearance in the welterweight division, while Garcia was able to fulfil a promise he had made to beat Benn within five rounds.

Garcia opened up about that brutal punch after the fight as well, saying that he had not shown it so much in the past due to having injuries, the Guardian reports.

“I’ve always had a right hand, but I always had injuries," he said. "So this is kind of the first two fights I had no injuries on my right hand.”

The victory was 28-year-old Garcia's first defence of the welterweight title, marking his 26th victory in 28 professional contests.

Garcia also briefly addressed the crowd on what was the weekend of Mexican Independence Day, saying: “I know some people don’t see me as Mexican because I don’t speak Spanish.

“But just know my love never goes away from you guys. I always love you and I’m going to always fight strong.”

Garcia was born and brought up in California, and wore both the US and Mexican flags as he walked to the ring, with El Rey by Vicente Fernández playing.

The match was watched buy a crowd of some 18,855 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Benn had been the WBC's number-one contender, however this defeat may lead to further claims that the brit was not ready for a shot at the world title, the BBC reports.

Garcia also called out Teófimo Lopez in the crowd following the match, challenging him before saying: “You want to get crazy, we going to get crazy."
