Former Manchester City player Courtney Meppen-Walter dies suddenly aged 32

Former Manchester City footballer Courtney Meppen-Walter has died at the age of 32.

The news was confirmed on social media by Bury Football Club, Meppen-Walter's most recent team, writing that they were 'deeply saddened' by the news of Meppen-Walter's death.

"We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former player Courtney Meppen-Walter, at the age of 32," the club said in a statement.

"The thoughts and condolences of everyone at #buryfc are with his family and friends at this incredibly difficult time."

No further details surrounding the 32-year-old's death have been made public at this time, however tributes have begun to pour in from other former clubs.

"Courtney was a larger-than-life character with the biggest heart, and he quickly became loved by both the Dabbers faithful and his fellow players, who all looked up to his inspirational leadership," read a statement from Nantwich Town FC, where Meppen-Walter played in 2024.

"He left a lasting impression on everyone that was fortunate enough to meet him and whilst there were sadly some dark times in his life, something that he never shied away from, the Courtney we knew was full of positivity and inspiration, and our heartfelt condolences go out to his family and all that knew him at such an incredibly sad time."

"We are shocked to hear of the passing of Courtney Meppen-Walter," added Guiseley AFC, where the father-of-one played between 2022 and 2024.

“Our thoughts are with Courtney’s family and friends at this sad time.”

"Everybody associated with Chorley Football Club is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former player Courtney Meppen-Walter, at the age of 32," wrote Chorley FC.

"Our thoughts and condolences are with all of Courtney's family and friends at this very difficult time."
