Expert explains why Gareth Southgate always wears the same shirt at matches

Focus has fallen on the England manager's fashion sense rather than the football

Although we're glad that Gareth Southgate is concentrating more on football rather than his fashion sense, have you ever stopped and wondered why he's always wearing the same shirt at matches?

First it was the 'lucky' waistcoat that he didn't have off of his back throughout the Euros in 2020, which subsequently flew off of the shelves as everybody seemed to want to embody the suave England manager.

Now, he has switched to a more casual and cool look for Euro 2024.

Although he definitely has the money for it, Southgate shrugs off pricey designers and instead looks bougie on a budget, picking up all his clobber for the tournament from the one and only Marks and Spencer.

For those who don't know, the plush high-street chain have been the official tailor for the England football team since 2007, and the Southgate-effect has saw some of their designs sell out.

At the Euros this year, the 53-year-old has been seen donning a smart casual polo shirt from M&S which will set you back just £45 - which is a small price to pay if you want to recreate Southgate's look.

The M&S X ENGLAND COLLECTION has gone down a treat with fans in the UK so far, so it's no wonder that the former Crystal Palace star is so keen to keep wearing the gear.

But apart from bypassing a fashion crisis on the way out of the door due to having his outfit pre-organised, what is the reason that Southgate is always dressed in his M&S best?

Well, according to award-winning personal stylist Lisa Talbot, it seems that he has adopted a 'uniform' while leading the England lads to glory at the Euros.

She reckons that he's got a very good reason for sticking to the same top.

Speaking to the Mirror, Talbot explained: "What we wear has a significant impact on not only how we feel but how we represent ourselves and how others see us, this is the personal brand that we create.

"In this case, Gareth has chosen to create a friendly, approachable, kind, sympathetic, yet professional look with this garment and the outfit that he's used to demonstrate these attributes.

"By creating a uniform this will also makes his life much easier for each match whilst delivering the same message about his personal brand and that of the England team."

So, there you have it. There's a method to his outfit-repeating madness.

If you fancy dressing up as him for Halloween this year or simply want to recreate Southgate's signature style, check out the M&S X ENGLAND COLLECTION here.
