Kate Abdo makes brutal dig at Jamie Carragher after controversial joke that 'went too far'

Kate Abdo has brutally responded to Jamie Carragher's controversial joke about her partner.

Former Liverpool defender Carragher made the joke during yesterday's (12 March) Champions League coverage on CBS after Arsenal's win against Porto.

Carragher had an Arsenal top on and suggested that Abdo should wear it.

The Manchester United fan declared her loyalty to the club and made it clear she wouldn't be putting it on.

"No I'm loyal," the presenter responded.

Carragher then dropped in a savage joke about Abdo's relationship with American boxing trainer, Malik Scott.

"Loyal to who? Not to Malik," Carragher said, bringing everyone on set to a complete silence while fellow pundits Thierry Henry and Micah Richards didn't know where to look.

Although Carragher tried to mask the awkward moment with his laugh, the panel simply weren't having it.

Abdo fired back: "What? Why would you even say that?"

While CBS Sports didn't include the full clip in its highlight reel from the evening, some viewers called for Carragher to be sacked from the network at the time.

The joke brought everyone on set to a complete silence.

To introduce today's (13 March) coverage of Europe's premier football competition on the American broadcaster, Abdo compared her relationship with her three co-presenters - Henry, Carragher and Richards - as having three brothers.

She began by saying that Henry was the 'golden child', that could 'do no wrong', and that he 'sets the example for the rest of us', as he is the 'big brother that we all aspire to'.

The Arsenal legend loved the introduction, saying: "Amen to that!"

Then, she moved onto Carragher, who has stayed silent on social media since his joke about the CBS presenter's other half.

She labelled him as the 'middle child' with 'a chip on his shoulder', stating: "Capable of saying anything for attention, does he go too far sometimes? Absolutely.

"Does he apologise? Yes he does.

"But we all have that one annoying family member that we still love and accept."

Moving onto former Manchester City defender Richards, she said that he was 'little bro', 'loud but lovable' and concluded by saying: "Micah Richards: Easy to pick on, impossible not to love, and everybody's favourite."

To which, Richards shouted: "What an introduction!"

Abdo then finished by saying: "Like a good family, we stick together so here we are, another day, another show."

Fans on X, formerly Twitter, loved the way Abdo handled the situation, with one commenting: "Kate is simply the best and this crew is Magnificent."

Another said: "Kate is magnificent. She has handled this so well."

And a third put: "PR masterclass can't even lie."
