Olympian OnlyFans star who celebrated bronze medal with x-rated gesture explains what it really meant

A Canadian pole vaulter decided to break the internet when she celebrated her Olympic bronze medal win.

Alysha Newman, 30, shocked sports fans with her risqué celebration after clearing 4.85 meters, finishing third in the competition.

It was her nation's first Olympic medal in the pole vault since 1912, which puts into context just what Newman achieved on Wednesday (7 August).

Now, the athlete is also known for sharing content on OnlyFans and her celebration initially appeared to be a small tribute to her subscribers.

As Newman cleared the pole, she jumped straight off the mat and ran in front of the crowd.

She then decided to do a viral celebration where she pretended to have injured her hamstring, before it transitioned into a 'twerk' - the shaking of the bottom, if you will.

BBC commentators said at the time: "I'm not sure about that celebration."

Explaining why she did what she did, Newman told CBC Sports: “I’m always injured, and I’m always getting back on the horse so I said I’m gonna go and scare my coaches because I want them to lighten up.

“So I said I’m gonna fake an injury and dance after.

“It just happened very fluid.

“I didn’t think I’m gonna twerk, but just from grabbing that to getting to the knee with a twerk it all just worked out in one.”

As a result, Newman said that her OnlyFans viewership skyrocketed after the incident.

"I'm so excited," she also told TSN.

"I laugh because getting third is, I mean I've never got third, but it's funny because you have to still wait and sit there and wait until the other girls are done.

"So I'm so awkwardly standing there like, 'What do I do? Do I celebrate? Do I kiss everyone? Do I cry?'

"It was a really surreal moment and it was awesome. I just feel like I'm very emotionally stable right now and just feel so honoured to be the first (women's) pole vaulter to bring home an Olympic medal for Canada."

Meanwhile, the Olympic medallist explained that she doesn't post your typical OnlyFans content.

"I post a lot of my training sessions, talk about nutrition and lots of tips and tricks," Newman explained to German publication BILD.

"Of course, many people have a certain cliché when they think of OnlyFans. I can't change many people's minds.

"But this website has connected me with many fans, more than any other pole vaulter before.

"What others think about it doesn't bother me. I am who I am and I do it well."
