Red Bull has issued a statement after allegations of 'inappropriate behaviour' were made against F1 racing chief Christian Horner.

Horner has been team principal of Red Bull's F1 team since 2005 and now claims made against him by an employee are being looked into.

In a statement provided to Dutch outlet De Telegraaf, Red Bull confirmed it knew about the allegations and the matter is being looked at by an external investigation.

It said: "After the company was made aware of certain recent allegations, an independent investigation was launched.

"This process, which is already ongoing, is being carried out by an external, specialised lawyer.

"The company takes these matters extremely seriously and the investigation will be completed as soon as practical. It would not be appropriate to comment further at this time."

Red Bull says it is aware of the allegations and an independent investigation is underway.

Horner has denied the allegations made against him.

The 50-year-old has been married to former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell since 2015.

The next Formula One season is due to begin soon, with the Bahrain Grand Prix coming at the beginning of March.

Red Bull is expected to be among the favourites again, with Horner's team winning the Constructor's Championship last season and their driver Max Verstappen being the defending F1 champion.
