Scotland fans issue warning to England supporters ahead of Ghana game tonight

They've been to the stadium twice before so they know what to be aware of

Scotland's fans have got some advice for the England supporters heading for the Boston Stadium tonight (23 June), since they've been to see a game in it already.

The Tartan Army saw their team beat Haiti and lose to Morocco in the same stadium where England are scheduled to play Ghana tonight, so they know all about the various things to be aware of.

While it's called the Boston Stadium at the moment, it's actually located about 22 miles south of Boston so it's quite a trek to get there from where the football fans have been staying.

Press Association reports that Three Lions fans who've made their way to Boston say that Scotland supporters have been warning them about expensive trains and major delays.

Fans said they'd been advised to 'get there a good four hours in advance' and set off good and early to make it to the Boston Stadium, but the real wait might come after the final whistle.

One fan said that Scotland's travelling faithful had described the return journey as something that 'could take you nine hours', so if there are any England fans in Boston reading this ahead of going to the game then you'd really better skedaddle.

Press Association reports that some of the trains are costing as much as $80 (£60.40), four times their usual price, and fans have had to pay to be sure they can make it to the games they've already paid a fortune for.

“I know there’s a lot of talk… but it is what it is, we’re staying a bit outside of Boston, so we’ll come to Boston, go to the city centre, soak up the atmosphere – that’s what it’s all about really," 23-year-old England fan Matthew Maidment told PA.

“We booked it in advance before it sells out – it is what it is.”

Other options for travel include a $45 Uber rideshare or a $95 shuttlebus service, and England fans who have family living around the Boston area have been thanking their lucky stars for something to keep the costs down.

While the game is on tonight the bar owners of Boston have been celebrating, they happily hosted the Scottish fans who drank the place dry and now they've moved on the England fans have taken their place to keep the party going.

Bar owner Brian McDonnell told LBC he'd had to 'rent a couple of mobile fridge units' to increase his beer storage capacity, and says he doesn't think there's been any serious trouble from the travelling fans since the World Cup began.

While England have headed over to Boston for their second group game, Scotland have left to go and play their third against Brazil down in Miami.

Though Brazil may be clear favourites for that game and a win for the five-time World Cup champions is the most likely outcome, Scotland could still squeak through to the knockout stages thanks to the third-placed rules, where eight of the 12 teams that come third in their groups will still go through.

That win against Haiti could see the Tartan Army continue their onward march, if results fall a certain way then they could eventually meet England.
