Photographer takes pictures of woman before and after three glasses of wine to show true impact

Marcos Alberti has been snapping pictures of people after consuming alcohol to test out a theory

If you’ve ever had a drink or two (or three), you’ll know that you progressively start to feel different as you get through the glasses. However, there’s not usually someone there to show you the true effects each one has had on you.

Unless you’re actively taking photos of the night, you’re never really sure of how you physically change when alcohol enters your blood stream.

But photographer Marcos Alberti is a pro at just that, and has been showing his friends the impact of booze for some time – even turning it into an event.

The Brazilian first went viral back in March after snapping some pictures of his pals when they were sober, then again when they had one, two and three glasses of vino.

The results were shockingly obvious for many to see, and after a few months, he’s done it again with great success.

His first posts saw the photographer snap shots of three of his mates, with Alberti's website stating that the photo series 'started as a joke' until it took off.

What he found was that his stress-y friends completely changed once each glass entered their systems, and so, the four-image collage was born.

In this latest installment, Amy, a woman who helps run The Wine Project: 3 Glasses, and attended both the ‘Miami 3 Glasses’ event at the Vinya Wine & Market, and one in Austin, was the focus of this photo-taking.

In the images, dressed in a black and white dress with a toucan embellished on it, Amy can be seen in four various states of alcohol-related stupor.

One: sober and smiling.

Two: A wider smile and one glass down.

Three: Two glasses and a little pose to show off the wine glass.

Four: Three glasses consumed and an up-close view of her smiling face.

Explaining what inspired the project, he explained: "There is a saying about wine that I really like and it’s something like this: 'The first glass of wine is all about the food, the second glass is about love, and the third glass is about mayhem'.

"I really wanted to see it for myself if that affirmation was in fact true."

Alberti's muse seemed to be happier and happier with each glass, which lines up with the result seen on his Instagram page for the project.

So, why is this?

According to Alcohol Change UK, alcohol can increase the body's production of dopamine and serotonin, which are known as our 'happy hormones'.

It’s this which could temporarily make people feel less anxious or a bit merry.

But don’t go mad with wine just to feel cheery as the charity says there’s also a chance drinkers could become dependent on the happy mood.

Its website states: “In the longer-term, the body becomes used to the dopamine boosts it’s getting from alcohol, and starts making less dopamine to compensate. That means that if drinking becomes a habit, we may become dopamine-deficient and this could contribute to us experiencing low mood.”
