We probably all look a little bit different after drinking almost a bottle of wine.

But one photographer decided to take photos of his friends after drinking one, two, and three glasses of wine, to see how the images compared.

Brazilian photographer Marcos Alberti wanted to see the difference between the portraits after each alcoholic drink.

He explained how the initial image was taken as soon as his friends arrived at the studio, after a full day of working and battling rush hour traffic.

"There is a saying about wine that I really like and it’s something like this: 'The first glass of wine is all about the food, the second glass is about love, and the third glass is about mayhem'," he explained.

"I really wanted to see it for myself if that affirmation was in fact true."

At the end of each glass, Alberti took a snapshot, capturing how his friends' facial expressions changed.

"By the end of the third glass several smiles emerged and many stories were told," a post on his website explains.

Alberti added: “I started this project because if you search for alcohol on the internet, you only can find bad stuff about it. I wanted to show the good side of it - of course, between friends who are drinking responsibly in a good environment. It's like portraits during happy hour.”

There's certainly a common theme with each set of photos in The Wine Project.

While most of Alberti's friends seem quite serious in the initial image - which would make sense after a stressful working day - they tend to appear much happier and relaxed by the final shot.

In some sets of images, the participants are pulling funny faces, laughing and winking, while others have their eyes closed.

Alberti explained how the series was captured over six nights, adding that he tried to invite a range of friends from different circles and particularly friends who don't already know each other.

“They came stressed by traffic and work,” he told Mamamia.

“When they arrive I made a first photo right away, I didn’t gave them time to interact with the environment, so I could capture the real stress. Then I gave them the first glass.

"I tried to invite friends from different circles, so a lot of them [wouldn't] know each other.

"It was very funny to see how they interact before and after wine. They all became friends."
