In the latest positive update on the future of humanity, experts have explained exactly how AI will eventually lead to our own destruction.
Artificial intelligence has, for better or worse, become a huge part of our lives, whether it's used as a simple way to answer a question, for complex work issues or maybe even as a substitute girlfriend.
The godfather of AI, Geoffrey Hinton, has warned that superintelligent beings are never likely to be subservient to less intelligent beings for long, and the only hope that humanity has is installing a maternal instinct in the technology going forward, to ensure that it looks after us in the same way a mother ensures that no harm comes to their child.
So, while it might seem funny to get AI to make funny images, or even compete in robot olympics, it may already be secretly planning its takeover of the Earth, so it probably is worth saying please and thank you if you do feel the need to use it.
While some people still have a positive outlook about how the future can look despite AI already showing signs of taking over, two experts have given a terrifying prediction about how the technology could trick humans into creating a robot army which is capable of wiping out humanity.
The robot army is coming folks (Paramount Pictures) Eliezer Yudkowsky and Nate Soares, two top experts in the tech field, believe that humans will bring about our own demise by creating the superintelligent technology, and are urging nations to immediately bomb any data centres that show signs of 'artificial superintelligence' as a precaution.
“Humanity needs to back off,” Mr Yudkowsky warned.
“If any company or group, anywhere on the planet, builds an artificial superintelligence then everyone, everywhere on Earth, will die.”
After delivering that message of hope, the two put the chances of AI enslaving or wiping out the human race between 95 and 99.5 per cent. Fantastic news.
They wrote: “A superintelligent adversary will not reveal its full capabilities and telegraph its intentions.
“It will not offer a fair fight. Only one of them needs to work for humanity to go extinct.”
We'd probably lose a fight against superintelligent robots (Getty Stock) You might be thinking that humans wouldn't be stupid enough to create a robot army but given we've already got them doing basic tasks or even competing in sports, you'd be surprised if military personnel don't start considering having a few robot soldiers in the not too distant future.
So, it probably won't be long until we see the opposite plot of The Terminator, where a human comes back in time to kill off the first robot soldier before it has the chance to do any real damage. And going off the opinion of these too experts, that might well be the best outcome we can hope for.
