WhatsApp to make 'major change' after users were left mortified following huge switch to app

The messaging app is apparently making another U-turn after receiving backlash from users

The tech boffins at WhatsApp must be really fickle folk, as another 'major change' is said to come to the messaging app just weeks after it was given a makeover.

The Meta-owned app's recent revamp didn't really have the desired effect, as the majority of users were left mortified by the tweaks - branding it everything from 'ugly' to just downright 'irritating'.

These obviously aren't exactly the kind of emotions we want to be evoked inside of us when we're simply heading to the group chat to drop an update on our day, so there's been uproar on social media about WhatsApp's transformation.

But as we've seen before, the instant messenger isn't afraid to backtrack when something isn't well received by users.

Remember when it changed the words 'online' and 'typing' which appear below a contact's name to capital letters instead of lower case for a mere few days?

Well, it reversed that pretty promptly after receiving backlash from a number of users.

Meta previously stated that it were was to bring a 'modern, new experience to WhatsApp and make it more accessible as well as easier to use', through the tweaks it was introducing.

It added: "We’ve made some changes to how WhatsApp looks and feels, including spacing, colours, icons and more."

Now, the app is apparently trying to make amends for angering iOS users last month by altering the colours on it.

Most iOS users suddenly woke up to see a very green-heavy aesthetic after years of it having the same look.

Android users will be left unbothered though, as they have always had a green interface - however, iPhones were known for having a deep blue theme, keeping in line with the general interface colours on Apple products.

The chat-list window, the status bar, notifications in your settings were all victims of the major revamp and began sporting the green that is associated with the messaging app.

To add even more insult to injury, even links that are sent in chats are now green coloured, instead of the old blue.

It seems tech giant Meta might be taking notice of the feedback from users now though, as the messaging app is reportedly set to undergo another 'major change'.

According to beta testers at WABetaInfo, the latest - and currently unreleased - version of WhatsApp for iOS devices is going to allow people to personalise the look they want the app to have for them.

Users might have a new range of chat theme colours to choose from, meaning you can get rid of the green you detest so much and customise it to whatever you prefer more.

Whatever theme colour you select will also be the colour of the chat bubbles and wallpaper, according to WABetaInfo.

On top of this, WhatsApp is also said to be working on a new feature which will allow you to control the app's accent colour, so it seems to be really going above and beyond to redeem itself with the public.

LADbible has contacted Meta for comment.
