Lucy Letby’s parents have come to her defence about a documentary released that reveals key moments of her arrest and investigation.
A Netflix documentary into the high-profile case titled The Investigation of Lucy Letby will be globally released on 4 February. It will show the ins and outs of the months leading up to Letby being convicted of the murders of seven babies, and attempting to kill seven others (with two attempts on one victim) between June 2015 and June 2016 at the Countess of Chester Hospital.
In the end, she was given 15 whole-life orders, and has since been denied two options to appeal her sentencing.
Letby, from Hereford, was arrested three times in relation to the deaths, with the final time being in November 2020 before she was convicted of the crimes in August 2023.

However, Letby’s parents have since slammed the footage as a ‘complete invasion of privacy’ which would ‘kill them’ to watch.
Susan and John Letby has revealed that the police footage of their daughter being arrested while in her pyjamas is an invasion of the family’s privacy.
However, this is also the same scene that was disputed in court by the prosecution team during Letby’s trial.
They told The Times: “We’ve always imagined that if something life-changing is going to happen to you the next day, you would somehow have a premonition that something was about to happen.
“We can honestly say that on the eve of all three of the arrests, we had absolutely no idea they were coming.”
They then asked why Letby’s lead investigator, Paul Hughes was able to show ‘what took place in our home that morning’ without Netflix telling them.
The footage goes on to corroborate that Letby was in fact arrested while in bed and in her pyjamas in one of the three instances, dispelling Nick Johnson KC painting her as a 'very calculating woman’ in court.
He added that she was making it up, stating: “The reason you tell lies is to try and get sympathy from people, you try and get attention from people.”
Letby was arrested in July 2018 wearing a blue tracksuit, but during her June 2019 arrest, she was in her nightwear.
The parents have since claimed the lead officer with the footage 'seems to have a deep hatred of us even though it was us who first went into Blacon police station in March 2017 to report that [the hospital consultants] Stephen Brearey and Ravi Jayaram were making Lucy a scapegoat.’
As for whether they will watch it, they have stated they will not entertain the idea, stating per Metro: “We will not watch it — it would likely kill us if we did,’ they said. ‘We have, however, stumbled on pictures of her being arrested in her bedroom in our house and her saying goodbye to one of her beloved cats, which are even more distressing. Heaven knows how much more they have to show.
“All this is taking place in the home where we have lived for 40 years. It is in a small cul-de-sac in a small town where everyone knows everyone. It is a complete invasion of privacy, of which we would have known nothing if Lucy’s barrister had not told us.”
It was confirmed earlier last month that Letby will face no further charges over additional deaths and collapses of babies whose evidence were handed to the police.
Cheshire Constabulary gave additional evidence to prosecutors last year for consideration, which were linked to eight potential offences of attempted murder and one offence of murder at the Countess of Chester Hospital.
