Terry's Chocolate Orange has just made its way to New Zealand and people are absolutely mind blown

The iconic sweet treat is proving to be rather confusing for New Zealanders

Christmas is just around the corner, which means one thing: stuffing our faces with as much chocolate and turkey as humanly possible.

But you may be surprised to learn that a British staple of the festive sweet treat variety has only just made its way to the other side of the world:

Yep, while many of use to count down the days until it's acceptable to whip out the big ball of goodness that is the Terry's Chocolate Orange, a lot of folks over in New Zealand have only just been introduced to it.

So big is the arrival that it's actually made the news recently, with people struggling to work out how to eat them.

Just last week, one Kiwi went viral after she attempted to eat hers whole. Talk about apples and oranges, eh?

Jazz Thornton, who goes by @notjazzthornton on TikTok, came in for some serious heat when she posted a video of her tucking into a Terry's.

The caption for her video read: "I think I did that very wrong."

Instead of breaking the choco orange into pieces so the whole family can share, Jazz opted to bite into it.

Viewers were outraged by the method, as one person commented: "I could hear so many people chorusing ‘you whack it on the table’."

A second wrote: “Every Brit watching this screamed HIT IT ON THE TABLE.”

Another reminded her of the classic advert – which she’s definitely never seen – adding: "'Don’t just tap it, whack it', was an advert from my childhood."

Jazz later posted another video, this time to apologise for her mega faux pas.

"I need to make an apology video to the entirety of the United Kingdom," she said. "I did something yesterday that was very offensive and I didn't know that it was very offensive until you guys were calling me out on it.

"And that was I didn't know you were meant to smash this [holds up a box of Terry's] before you ate it, ok?"

Jazz went on to defend herself, claiming there weren't any instructions on the box. Hmm.

Since her story went viral, it has gone on to be discussed in local media, with TV presenters trying to work out how you're supposed to eat the treat.

In a video posted by Jazz to her page, a group are seen discussing the item.

And at one point, one of the women actually tries to smash it against her head - something she learns very quickly that you really shouldn't do.

As soon as she smashes her forehead with the chocolate, she instantly regrets her decision, crying out: "Nope."

We're glad you lot can finally experience Terry's but eat responsibly, New Zealand.
