The BBC has shared the first look at Tracy Beaker as a mum.

The iconic children's character is set to return for a new series, with the story focusing on her life as an adult with a child of her own.

Dani Harmer has reprised her role, though she now has an 11-year-old daughter, Jess, played by Emma Davies.

My Mum Tracy Beaker is told from the perspective of Jess and follows the pair as they struggle to cope financially, with Tracy finding love in the form of a rich ex-footballer boyfriend Sean Godfrey (Jordan Duvigneau).

Davies said she was a huge fan of the CBBC series The Story of Tracy Beaker - adapted from the Jacqueline Wilson novels - and that she can't wait for it to hit our screens.

She said: "I'm really enjoying playing Jess Beaker, she's such a fun character to play. It was so awesome to start work on the show as me and my brother have watched Tracy Beaker for as long as I can remember, we are huge fans!

"Filming so far has been fantastic, everyone is really nice and friendly and I'm having the best time."

Speaking about the three-part series, Harmer said she was over the moon to be back and to be able to continue Tracy's journey.

In a statement, the 31-year-old said: "Words can't describe how excited I am to bring Tracy back.

"I'm just like all the fans and have been desperate to find out what Tracy has been up to and where her next journey is going to take her. It's been so lovely to work with some familiar faces too. The script is brilliant and I think the audience is going to love where the story goes."

Harmer originally played Beaker back in the CBBC series The Story of Tracy Beaker.

But Harmer admitted the global pandemic and lockdown have made it a challenging time for filmmaking.

She added: "Filming during 2020 has been interesting for sure, but it's been amazing to watch all the talented cast and crew adapt and be very creative with getting the job done.

"As an industry we can deal with anything if we put our minds to it. And we're proving that it can be done!"

The series will also see the return of some familiar faces of the original CBBC series The Story of Tracy Beaker, including Tracy's adopted mum Cam (Lisa Coleman), her birth mum Carly (Ruth Gemmell) and Tracy's nemesis Justine Littlewood (Montanna Thompson).
