Fans Think The Simpsons Predicted Kamala Harris Becoming Vice President

As sure as night follows day, for almost any huge event there will be someone who claims The Simpsons predicted it would happen.

And it's happened again, this time with some joking that the cartoon's writers predicted long ago that Kamala Harris would become the Vice President.

Well, kind of. The episode 'Bart To The Future', which aired in 2000, sees Lisa become the first female President of the United States - so it's not quite exactly the same, but still.

However, one aspect that does support the bizarre theory is the outfits worn by both Lisa and Ms Harris - a purple jacket, a necklace, and earrings.

And even the most cynical of minds would have to concede that there is a similarity.

Sharing a photo of the two side by side, one user wrote on Twitter: "Vice President Kamala Harris."

Another joked: "@KamalaHarris hey, congrats! BTW, did you think of Lisa Simpson today? Or is this just coincidence?"

While a third put: "Kamala Harris & Lisa Simpson Same vibe."

One thing that The Simpsons certainly did predict, however, was that Donald Trump would become the President of the United States.

During the same episode, President Lisa quips: "We've inherited quite a budget crunch from President Trump."

Speaking to the Hollywood Reporter, one of the show's writers, Dan Greaney, said it was meant to be a warning.

He told the publication: "It was a warning to America. That just seemed like the logical last stop before hitting bottom. It was pitched because it was consistent with the vision of America going insane."

Matt Groening told The Guardian: "We predicted that he would be president back in 2000 - but [Trump] was of course the most absurd placeholder joke name that we could think of at the time, and that's still true. It's beyond satire."

Trump left the White House for the last time today, boycotting Joe Biden's inauguration ceremony and returning home to Florida.

This was only the fourth time in the country's history, after John Adams in 1801, John Quincy Adams in 1829 and Andrew Johnson in 1869, that an outgoing president did not attend the inauguration of his successor.

However, White House staff have confirmed that the outgoing president did leave President Biden a letter before he left office.
