Former Gogglebox star George Gilbey has been charged with assault following an argument with his girlfriend, it's been reported.

He also reported to have gone on a 'wrecking spree' at their family home in Twickenham, according to the Sun.

He is alleged to have shoved his partner Gemma after 'snapping' during an argument.

Gilbey, who has a daughter with Gemma, is then reported to have gone on a 'rampage' through causing around £400 ($560) worth of damage by smashing up a TV, stairgate, lamp and a windowsill.

He was arrested the next day and charged with one offence of assault by beating and criminal damage to property valued at under £5,000 ($7,000).

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police told the Mail Online: "A man has been charged following an assault on Friday 16 March.

"George Gilbey, 34, of Clacton, was charged with assault by beating and criminal damage on Saturday 17 March.

"He has been bailed to appear at Wimbledon Magistrates' Court on Wednesday 18 April."

It is thought that he has now moved back in with his mum Linda and step-dad Pete.

The couple have been together since 2015, after they met at Ascot Races the previous year. Gemma gave birth to their daughter, Amelie, in 2016.

Gilbey appeared on Gogglebox in 2013, with his mum Linda and her husband Pete. The family left the show a year later - after Gilbey appeared on Celebrity Big Brother, which is broadcast on Channel 5. This was found to be a 'rule break' by Gogglebox producers and the family were forced to leave.

Gilbey also appeared in 'Celebrity Big Brother'.
