Lockdown restrictions are about to ease even more, and as of 17 May, life will be starting to look more normal again.

And to celebrate the approaching end of a long, tough year and half of lockdowns, Krispy Kreme is giving away ONE MILLION doughnuts.

As of Monday 10 May, the American doughnut company will be giving an absolute shed load of their Krispy Kreme Original Glazed treats away to UK customers, for one week only.

To get your free celebratory doughnut, all you need to do is go to your local Krispy Kreme store and share a message showing how you have connected with someone.

As part of the campaign, you just need to show 'a message of connection' - this could be a social media post, photo message or even a hand-written note that you have received from someone - with #SmilesAsCurrency written on it.

You've got until 16 May and no purchase is required.

Nadine Singler, Krispy Kreme UK and Ireland's Head of Marketing & Sustainability said: "We are known the world over for our Original Glazed doughnut and we love seeing people smile and connect whilst they enjoy their doughnuts.

"So, we want to celebrate all of those little things that make you smile by giving away up to 1 million doughnuts in a week to those that connect and smile from cheek to cheek! Come on Britain get connecting."

The offer is only available in UK stores, not including supermarket kiosks or delivery services.

But if you live in the US, don't worry, you can receive a free doughnut if you get your Covid-19 vaccine.

The chain is offering people in the US a free doughnut every day for the rest of the year - so long as they have their vaccine card. So the sooner you get jabbed, the more doughnuts you'll be entitled to.

The chain is also giving employees four hours paid time off to get both doses of a vaccine.

Chief marketing officer Dave Skena told Insider: "Whatever little things brands can do to help make it past the pandemic are good things.

"I hope that other brands will see and choose to do something similar."

He added that getting vaccinated is a 'personal choice', but the company wants 'to encourage and make sure nothing is standing in the way'.

The offer started in March, and can be claimed in any of Krispy Kreme's 369 US shops anytime, any day, every day for the rest of the year.

You don't have to buy anything else either, it's completely on the house, though you don't get to choose which doughnut you get - it's the Original Glazed doughnut only.
