The ‘African tribe’ who have been living in the woods had a bizarre response when asked why they were on land not belonging to them.

All three members of the so-called Kingdom of Kubala were evicted this morning (2 October), after spending weeks in the Scottish borders.

Led by King Atehene (whose true identity is as Kofi Offeh), the trio were served an eviction notice last month as they were on private land and then moved their camp onto a plot of land owned by the council.

And his wife, Queen Nandi (AKA Jean Gasho), shared footage of the eviction on social media as live streams showed law enforcement officers removing them.

Believed to make an income from subscribers on their accounts, the ‘tribe’ has previously welcomed news outlets and spoken with them.

And in an interview with Sky News, they were asked: “You’re on land that doesn’t belong to you, why are you so special?”

Queen Nandi then claimed: “It was stolen from us though, by ancestors… says God.”

That seems to be the belief of the tribe, as they claim the land they had been staying on was stolen from their people 400 years ago.

Jedburgh councillor Scott Hamilton said police, sheriff officers and other agencies went into the camp this morning to evict them from the land.

He said: “The site is currently being cleared by the council.

“There are still a few things at play with regard to the situation, but I think this morning has been a good result for the community and for them as well in terms of the outcome.”

Hamilton added to Sky News: “So, this group obviously arrived in Jedburgh a number of months ago. They set up camp here.

"They were originally on Scottish Borders Council land, and they set up camp and claimed they were a Kingdom of Kubala. And this, quite frankly, was ludicrous.”

He said the supposed tribe’s actions ‘broke laws’ and ‘the rules’ as he continued: “And as landowners we took action, as well as private landowners, to ensure this outcome today."

Offeh has repeatedly stated that he is the ‘King of Kubala’ and that ‘all nations belong’ to him.

“Everyone you see bows before me because I am the chosen one,” he adds.

He and Gasho were joined by Kaura Taylor from the US as their ‘handmaiden’, Asnat, whose family had reported her missing and claimed she had been ‘groomed’ into joining the pair.
