Champion bodybuilder Neil Currey dies tragically at the age of 34

Mr Olympia and champion bodybuilder has died at the age of 34, his former trainer has announced.

Champion bodybuilder Neil Currey has tragically died at the age of 34.

The UK-born bodybuilder had his first professional competition in 2017 at the WBFF World Championships Pro Muscle Model.

And since then, Currey continued his rise to become one of the most well known bodybuilders on the planet.

In 2019, he made his International Fitness and Bodybuilding Federation debut in the Classic Physique competition, subsequently finishing in seventh place.

A 2nd and a 3rd place followed in major competitions, then Currey's maiden victory came at the New York Pro where he came first in the Men's Classic Physique.

That victory qualified him for the famed Mr Olympia competition, where he ended up finishing in 16th place.

Currey's tragic passing was revealed by Milos Sarcev, his former trainer, who wrote a devastated post on Instagram.

He penned: "Absolutely shocking, heartbreaking news - that my former athlete @neil_currey died today.

"My last/best memory of him was this smiling face after he won New York Pro and fulfilled his lifetime dream of qualifying for the Mr. Olympia.

"I am lost for words and filled with pain and sadness.

"My sincere condolences to his family, friends and loved ones. RIP Neil and God bless your soul."

No statement has been released from Currey's family regarding his passing, and no indication has been given to a cause of death.

There has been an outpouring of sadness after the news was revealed on social media, with many flocking to social media sites to offer their condolences and remember Currey.

One fan on X (formerly known as Twitter) wrote: "What a tragic loss! That inspiration ever since my first thoughts into this bodybuilding world came from people like #NeilCurrey.

"That inspiration will never be lost! RIP one of the greatest!!!"

Another fan penned: "I lived with him for two years, and my heart is filled with sorrow for Neil. He possessed an unwavering stoicism that I admired greatly. Neil, in the time you spent on this earth, you accomplished more than most could in three lifetimes. Your unwavering dedication to pursuing your dreams and your refusal to surrender were awe-inspiring."

There was also many from the bodybuilding community who flocked to social media to remember Currey.

US ex-bodybuilder Dave Palumbo wrote: "Stunned and beyond saddened by the tragic news that Neil Currey has passed away at the young age of 34. We pass our most sincere and deepest condolences to Neil's family, friends, and to all of his fans around the world."

While IFBB Pro bodybuilder Iris Kyle added: "My condolences to the Curry family and the sports world for the loss of a great athlete.

"May the earth bless his resting place and may we remember him for his positive impact, leaving negative assumptions behind."
