Cyclist defends footage of him pushing his bike into a car to stop it driving down 'no entry' road

Michael van Erp, also known as Cycling Mikey, shared a clip of him getting into an argument with a motorist over the weekend

A cyclist has defended footage of him pushing his bike into a car to try and deter it from driving down a 'no entry' road.

Michael van Erp, also known as Cycling Mikey, shared a clip of him getting into an argument with a motorist over the weekend in London, when they attempted to drive down a road that was blocked off with a 'no entry' sign.

A bit cheeky, I know.

Anyway, in the clip, the cyclist rides into the road to block the Fiat 500 from driving through, with Mikey asking: "What is that sign back there?"

The car then reverses, but doesn't drive away, and Mikey then waits as it attempts to drive through a second time.

As the Fiat attempted to drive down the road for a second time, Mikey pushed his bike into the road. This time, the car collided with the bike and the cyclist's belongings smashed all over the road.

Over the top of the YouTube clip, Mikey writes: "Yeah, he just smashed his bike out of my hands and left the scene of a collision. He used his car as a weapon, I only wanted to stop him.

"I expected him to stop TBH and when he kept going at speed I stopped."

Some people who witnessed the collision came to help Mikey and he could be heard explaining he would be claiming on insurance if there was any damage to his bike.

Mikey then films a number of other cars driving through the 'no entry' signs and ignoring earlier warnings that the road is closed.

After the video was shared on X, other social media users weren't very sympathetic towards Mikey over what had happened.

One person wrote: "That was completely avoidable. You antagonised that situation. You have no business trying to physically enforce road traffic legislation beyond passively recording and reporting."

While another added: "You just deliberately caused an RTA in the name of your ridiculous vigilantism! FFS!

"Reflect for a moment that maybe you are taking things too far."

And a third said: "You’ve committed criminal damage Mikey. You’re not the police and you have no jurisdiction in attempting to stop any cars on the road regardless if they are breaking traffic laws.

"You used your bike to intimidate and ram a road user. Posting this is self-incriminating. Could also fall under public nuisance."

Meanwhile, one bystander who filmed the incident, @___KR111BACKUP, also shared a clip online, explaining: "Cycling Mikey is on one!"

The Met Police confirmed to The Sun that they were aware of the footage and said: “We are aware of footage circulating on social media which appears to show an incident on Paddenswick Road, Hammersmith on Sunday August 10.

“No arrests have been made at this stage.

“We urge victims of crime to contact the police by calling 101, or 999 in an emergency.”
