Martin Lewis has told Brits how they can claim a free £200 in the run up to Christmas. But they'll have to be quick.

The festive period can be hard enough on personal finances as it is, with pressure always mounting when it comes to buying gifts and wondering if you have spent enough on presents for your loved ones and friends.

Combined with higher energy bills in the freezing, dark months, the ongoing cost of living crisis, and often an earlier pay day in December, the stretch from Christmas to that January pay packet can feel like an eternity.

Well, thanks to The Martin Lewis Money Show over on ITV, you might be able to ease that financial burden a little.

Broadcast on ITV 1 on Tuesday evening (19 November), the special Christmas edition of Lewis' incredibly popular money show showed him begin proceedings by telling us about the £200 hack in the run up to December, with it now less than two weeks away.

Lewis, who hails from Manchester, said Brits can get their hands on the 'free' cash by doing one simply task.

But you'll need to act quickly or you'll miss your chance.

Martin Lewis free £200 hack explained

To get the money, Lewis has told his followers to simply switch bank accounts. And to do it fast, if you want that money before Christmas Day.

As of this week, Lewis explained that five banks are trying to get you to switch to them by offering you money, with cash sitting between £150 and £200 depending on the bank you choose.

And it's easy to do, with the money guru showcasing one of his recent polls that showed 84 percent said the process was simple.

Claiming the £200

To get the money, you'll need to under go a pretty easy credit check.

After that, you have to opt in for the 'seven working-day switch service' which is offered by NatWest, First Direct, Nationwide, Santander Edge, and Club Lloyds.

Lewis explained that doing this will transfer over your existing current account balance, Direct Debits, and even standing orders, as well as close your old bank account. Sounds easy enough to us.

Not everything is moved to the new account, Lewis added.

"If you have any recurring payments, those are the ones where you give the long number card, like on a debit or credit card, they won't be moved across so you need to keep an eye on that one yourself," he explained.

And as with all switch offers, there is no guarantee it'll be there in a day's time, never mind a week. So if you want it, act.

If you choose Lloyds, you should get £200 in your account by the end of the first week of December.
