Jeremy Clarkson has weighed in on the man who was caught joining the ‘mile high club’ on an easyJet flight this week.

Piers Sawyer has gone viral after the moment he was caught red-handed doing the deed with another passenger was filmed and shared online.

It all started on 8 September when the amorous pair boarded an easyJet flight from Luton to Ibiza and got down and dirty in the cabin toilets.

Unfortunately for Sawyer and the unknown lady, the clip was seen by his mum, Elaine Sawyer, 51, while the video was being discussed on Loose Women.

And The Grand Tour presenter, 68, has since shared his two cents and his thoughts about the tryst may surprise you.

In his column for The Sun newspaper, Clarkson said: “AFTER a couple were found making the two-backed beast in an easyJet lavatory, the pilots called police, and both were escorted off the plane when it landed.”

The Clarkson’s Farm star goes on to defend Sawyer and the woman and basically said that their actions weren’t that bad.

“Why? If they’d been trying to open the plane’s door, or running up and down the aisle vomiting on other passengers, I can understand that some kind of offence might have been committed,” he writes.

“But the last time I looked, mating, behind a closed door, is not just legal, but essential for the future of our species.”

It is against the law to intentionally engage in sexual activities in a public lavatory, under Section 71 of the Sexual Offences Act.

A spokesperson for the airline confirmed that police were called to meet the pair once the flight landed in Ibiza.

“We can confirm that this flight from Luton to Ibiza on 8 September was met by police on arrival due to the behaviour of two passengers onboard,” the spokesperson said.

But don’t expect Sawyer or his lady friend to ‘mate’ again any time soon as the lad confessed he was very drunk when they hooked up in the toilets and failed to get her number afterwards.

"It just happened after a long day of drinking. I didn’t see the girl until we boarded," he told The Sun in an exclusive interview.

Jeremy Clarkson spoke about the situation in his recent Sun column.

"She was sitting in front of us with her friend. She was 23 and good looking."

Things began to escalate when Sawyer's brother, Harrison, suggested they swap seats to each sit next to one of the girls and around 40 minutes into the flight, they 'just went for it'.

"There were two flight attendants by the toilets, and I’m pretty sure they saw us walk in," he continued.

In the clip, a member of the cabin crew can be seen confronting the couple, and cheers erupted up and down the plane as the door swung open and revealed the pair.

The holidaymaker continued: "Because I was so out of it, I didn’t really care but later on it hit me."

Sawyer and the woman, who hasn't been identified, parted ways at baggage reclaim, but although the traveler hoped to see his plane friend again, he failed to even get her digits.
