A man ended up getting the shock of a lifetime when he was exploring an abandoned zoo in Thailand.

Sean King went to investigate Phuket Zoo, which closed down in 2020 and had a number of concerns raised about the welfare of the animals kept there.

Sean, who posts videos of himself exploring various abandoned sites as well as his travels on his YouTube channel, dared to venture inside the site.

The zoo was previously home to exotic creatures, including tigers, elephants, bears, and monkeys, all crammed into 4.8 hectares of land near the Mueang Phuket district.

PETA had previously described it as 'hell on Earth for animals', and claimed that following its closure, the animals would be sent to wildlife sanctuaries.

Sean explained: "A charity had removed all the animals and relocated them, the biggest rescue of its kind in its history."

But Sean would soon be shocked to find that not all the animals had been relocated when he went inside in June 2023.

In one segment of the video, he encounters a large pond within the abandoned zoo.

Peering into the dark water, the urban explorer was left startled by what he saw.

"No way, f**k! Mate, they are still in here, f**k! You're having a f**king laugh. This is abandoned!" he exclaimed.

The animals, of a potentially deadly species, were laid out in the pool.

Sean began to count the large animals in front of him: "One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine... nine."

He then tossed something into the water to coax them out of hiding.

"There is nine crocodiles," he said. "You're having a laugh. 10, 11! 12! F**king hell. Get them out of here."

Stunned, Sean added: "That is a crocodile pen with 12 crocs in.

"No way, I'm out of here, I've had enough of that! This ain't funny anymore.

"I was looking but they are so camouflaged. That has freaked me out.

"I do not want a crocodile on my leg. You saw how they reacted when I threw that brick in - they are hungry."

It wasn't just crocodiles, either.

Venturing further in, Sean encountered a deer and a tiger.

"There's an ice box there with sausages in," he said. "[The tiger] is looking at me. Poor f**king thing. That is outrageous!"

He added: "Phuket Zoo is beyond belief. It was probably the worst zoo when it was open and now it's closed, it's probably even worse still."

It is not clear what happened to the animals featured in Sean's video, although it is believed that Phuket Zoo truly is empty these days.
