Neil Hopper pleaded guilty to two charges of fraud at Truro Crown Court today (4 September) by falsely claiming to insurance companies that his legs had been amputated due to illness rather than a self-inflicted injury.

The vascular surgeon also admitted three charges of possessing extreme pornographic images which depicted genital mutilation. These related to videos by the EunuchMaker website.

He has been jailed for 32 months.

The court heard how the 49-year-old had used dry ice to freeze his legs until they reached the point that they were no longer viable and required amputation. It was said this had long been an ambition of Hopper and he had a sexual interest in it.

Following this amputation, the surgeon made claims to the insurers which resulted in total payouts of £466,653.81.

“It is evident from the messages that Mr Hopper wished to become an amputee and it was always something he had dreamt of,” prosecutor Nicholas Lee said.

“Something he has been obsessed with and had a sexual interest in becoming an amputee.”
