What did 'Eunuch Maker' do as surgeon is accused of amputating his own legs after buying videos

Neil Hopper was thought to be the bravest man in Britain before his arrest last year

A dad-of-two has been arrested following the amputation of his legs, which led to the disturbing link to the ‘Eunuch maker.’

Neil Hopper once thought to be the bravest men in Britain, after having performed hundreds of amputations as a vascular surgeon in the UK.

However, in 2019, he lost both his legs, claiming he had contracted life-threatening sepsis.

He alleged he had fallen ill on a camping trip before being taken to hospital, and this is the story Hopper stuck to during an appearance on This Morning.

With many believing his sad story, he was held in high regard by the nation, and in 2020, he won the Against All Odds category at the Amplifon Awards for Brave Britons.

He was even shortlisted as part of the European Space Agency’s search for candidates to be a disabled astronaut.

But his status would change after he was arrested in 2023 on two counts of false representation and a charge of encouraging or assisting in the commission of grievous bodily harm.

Hopper subsequently appeared at Cornwall Magistrates' Court earlier last week, but did not enter a plea.

It has been alleged that between 3 June and 26 June 2019, Hopper falsely claimed to insurers that the loss of both of his legs was to sepsis, leading to Devon and Cornwall Police claiming he attempted to procure £461,000 from two separate insurance companies.

Shockingly, the investigation found that Hopper allegedly bought videos from the website of Marius Gustavson, a criminal dubbed 'The Eunuch Maker', who was convicted for castrating men on a livestream, and encouraging others to have the procedure.

Gustavson will serve a minimum prison term of 22 years for his crimes, and a new documentary, titled The Eunuch Maker, was released which shows the full scope of his gruesome castrations.

Gustavson ran his morbid website for many years undetected, and would seem to castrate willing participants in flats and hotel rooms in London.

When things would go wrong during the surgery, the Norwegian man would lie to police and claim that the person he had castrated had injured themselves by accident, even once claiming a victim had dropped a kitchen knife.

However, during a police raid on his flat, they found human body parts kept as 'trophies', including testicles in takeaway trays in his freezer, and his own penis, which he had amputated four years prior.

As for why he castrated and allegedly even ate some of the body parts, the BBC reports that Gustavson's legal team attempted to put forth the defence that he wanted to 'put a smile on people's faces' if they, like him, were suffering from body integrity dysphoria (BID), a rare condition.

Sufferers of BID may feel as though a body part does not belong to them and therefore may go to extreme lengths to remove the appendage.

As part of his website, the 'Eunuch Maker' sold subscriptions where people could pay around £100 for an annual package, which let them watch the livestreams of him castrating men.

At the time if it being shut down, he had 22,000 subscribers and Gustavson had profited approximately £300,000 from his business.

Court documents also indicate he sold human body parts or even consumed them.

As Hopper continues to be remanded in custody and will be appearing at Truro Crown Court on 26 August, more details may come to light about the motive for his amputations.
