Vimto has issued a product recall over certain bottles of its Vimto Original.

Shoppers have been told not to drink the affected product, over a "potential risk to customers."

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) shared the recall notice on its website, explaining why the bottles had been recalled and which batches were impacted.

They also advised people following a specific diet not to drink the soft drink, if they have one of the affected bottles.

A spokesperson for the FSA said: "Nichols plc is recalling Vimto Original 500ml due to bottles being labelled with a ‘No Added Sugar’ statement.

"The product within the bottles contains added sugar. This makes the product a potential risk to consumers who need to manage their sugar intake.

"Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling these products. These notices explain to customers why the products are being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the products."

The FSA explained that if you have bought the product, it can be returned for a full refund.

"If you have bought the above products and need to manage your sugar intake, please do not drink them," they advised.

"Instead, return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund. For more information contact Nichols plc on 01925 222 222 or [email protected]."

The products being recalled have a number of different batch numbers.

These are: 4051, 4052, 4073, 4074, 4050, 4051, 4072 and 4073.

The FSA explained there was a 'potential risk' to those who need to manage their sugar intake.

Just a few days ago, the FSA issued a separate warning about Viennetta ice cream.

The warning was issued because milk and soya were not listed in English on the product label, which could cause harm to those with allergies.

Due to a labelling error, they had been printed in Spanish by accident.

"Unilever are recalling Viennetta Vanilla because milk and soya are not listed in English on the label," the notice explained.

"This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents and/or an allergy to soya. This is a result of a labelling error which means allergens and product information are in Spanish. This only affects products sold at Tesco stores in the UK."

The batch code for the affected product is L4031BC020.
