Former US President Bill Clinton denied having sex with an unidentified woman he was pictured with in the Epstein Files.

Clinton faced questions from US lawmakers over his connection to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein as he was named and his picture appeared on multiple occasions in documents.

While the testimony took place behind closed doors, Clinton shared his opening statement where he said: "I saw nothing, and I did nothing wrong."

The BBC reports that during the questions, Clinton was asked about an image from the Epstein files which appears to show him in a hot tub with an unidentified woman whose appearance has been redacted.

Clinton told US lawmakers he did not know her, and when asked whether he had sex with her he denied it, transcripts of what he said are set to be released in due course.

The Epstein files do not implicate Clinton in wrongdoing and he has not been accused of misconduct by Epstein's victims who have come forward.

In his opening statement he said: "I had no idea of the crimes Epstein was committing.

"No matter how many photos you show me, I have to things that at the end of the day matter more than your interpretation of those 20-year-old photos.

"I know what I saw, and more importantly, what I didn’t see. I know what I did, and more importantly, what I didn’t do.

"I saw nothing, and I did nothing wrong."

Clinton told those set to question him that if he 'had any inkling' of what Epstein was doing he'd 'have turned him in myself and led the call for justice for his crimes'.

The former US president insisted he 'saw nothing that ever gave me pause' and that he'd stopped associating with Epstein long before the 2008 conviction of soliciting a minor for prostitution.

Clinton also said he'd been saying 'I don't recall' often to questions, which he said 'might be unsatisfying' but he wouldn't say something he was not sure of.

The former Democrat leader also hit out at the decision to make his wife Hillary testify, saying: "You made Hillary come in. She had nothing to do with Jeffrey Epstein. Nothing. She has no memory of even meeting him. She neither traveled with him nor visited any of his properties. Whether you subpoenaed 10 people or 10,000, including her was simply not right."

Former Secretary of State Clinton gave her testimony yesterday, claiming that she had 'no idea' about Epstein's criminal activities.

"I had no idea about their criminal activities," she said of the sex offender and his convicted accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell.

The statement added: "I do not recall ever encountering Mr Epstein. I never flew on his plane or visited his island, homes or offices. I have nothing to add to that."
