A car has launched into the air and crashed into the second floor of a house in central Pennsylvania.

On August 6, Junction Fire Company was called to assist the Decatur Volunteer Fire Company for a report of a vehicle accident on the 800 block of Alfarata Road in the Decatur Township, in Mifflin County Pennsylvania.

According to a statement they posted on Facebook, the chief of the Decatur Volunteer Fire Company arrived on the scene 'within minutes' to find the car stuck in the second floor of the house.

The driver had already removed themselves from the vehicle.

The driver was taken to Geisinger Lewistown Hospital and their condition remains unknown at this time.

Three people were inside the home at the time of the accident.

They were evaluated by paramedics at the scene but not taken to the hospital.

The fire company believes the vehicle hit a small culvert next to the driveway of the home.

This caused the vehicle to become airborne and hit the second story of the house.

"(The vehicle) struck a culvert is about all we can officially say," a fire company spokesperson told FOX43.

It took emergency crews about three hours to remove the vehicle from the second floor of the home, according to the fire department.

Rescue crews then stabilised the house and helped the homeowners put a tarp over the hole to protect the building from the upcoming storms.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, troopers have said it was 'determined through an investigation that the crash was an intentional act and charges are pending at this time'.

The cost of repairs to the house are yet to estimated.
