Charlie Kirk's final words have been revealed in footage circulating around social media.

The Donald Trump ally was shot at a campus event in Utah during an event hosted by his nonprofit political organisation on Wednesday (10 September).

Videos shared by Utah Valley University show the conservative activist speaking into a handheld microphone while sitting under a white tent with the slogans 'The American Comeback' and 'Prove Me Wrong'.

Taking to Truth Social, the US president announced the 31-year-old's death, writing: "The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead.

"No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie.

"He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us."

He added: "Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!"

Utah Governor Spencer Cox said it was a 'political assassination' carried out from a rooftop and the two people who were detained have been released by the police.

"This is a dark day for our state. It’s a tragic day for our nation," he said.

"I want to be very clear, this is a political assassination."

Utah's Department of Public Safety added: "This shooting is still an active investigation."

Now, footage shared on social media appears to show just a single shot being fired out and members of the 3,000-person crowd running away shortly afterwards.

Just before the shooting, Kirk was taking questions from an audience member who asked: "Do you know how many transgender Americans have been mass shooters over the last 10 years?"

"Too many," the activist replied.

Then in a follow-up question, the person asked: "Do you know how many mass shooters there have been in America over the last 10 years?"

Kirk replied: "Counting or not counting gang violence?" Before he is shot in the neck.

Emma Pitts, a reporter for Deseret News who was at the event, told The Guardian: "And then before he could even answer, we heard a gunshot and we just saw Charlie Kirk’s neck turn to the side and it appeared that he had been shot in the neck.

"There was blood, immediately a lot of blood

"After the shots were fired, everyone immediately took to the ground. Me and Eva (her colleague) just hugged each other as tight as we could as we were just trying to stay hidden.

"I don’t know how quickly it was, probably within a minute, everyone started running away… Since then the university has been completely evacuated."
