After weeks of conflict, Donald Trump claims negotiations with Iran are happening ‘now’.
It’s reported that the US president has offered a 15-point ceasefire plan as well as other unconfirmed reports of a potential month-long ceasefire while discussions take place.
Details have been reported by both American and Iranian media as it’s said this peace plan was submitted to Iran by intermediaries from Pakistan who have apparently offered to host renewed negotiations.
It’s said that Israeli officials were taken aback by this submission of a ceasefire plan by Trump’s administration, having been advocating for the US to continue the war.
Advert
But an anonymous person briefed on the contours of the proposal told the Associated Press that this move is being framed as the president manoeuvring to give himself ‘max flexibility’ on what he will do next.

That’s as this 15-point peace plan comes as the US military is preparing to call up at least 1,000 more troops to supplement the roughly 50,000 already in the region.
Plus, the Pentagon is in the process of deploying a pair of Marine Expeditionary Units that will bring roughly 5,000 Marines and thousands of sailors.
Earlier yesterday (24 March), before this peace plan was reported as delivered, Trump had said the US was in talks with Iran while they issued a newly defiant statement.
Lieutenant Colonel Ebrahim Zolfaghari, a spokesperson for the Iranian military’s Khatam Al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, said on state television: “The strategic power you used to talk about has turned into a strategic failure.
“The one claiming to be a global superpower would have already gotten out of this mess if it could. Don’t dress up your defeat as an agreement. Your era of empty promises has come to an end.
“Have your internal conflicts reached the point where you are negotiating with yourselves?”

What is reportedly in the 15-point peace plan?
There’s no official confirmation on what this plan may contain but Israel’s Channel 12 reports that it includes these demands:
· Transparency and oversight by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) over activities in Iran
· Commitment to never strive to achieve nuclear weapons
· The Strait of Hormuz to remain open and constitute a ‘free maritime zone’
· Nuclear facilities at Natanz, Isfahan, and Fordow to be taken out of use and destroyed
· Iran to abandon use of armed proxies in the region as well as stopping its funding and arming of regional affiliates
· Existing nuclear capabilities to be dismantled
· No nuclear material to be enriched on Iranian soil with any enriched material to be handed over to the IAEA
· Limited in quantity and rage and only for self-defence, Iran’s missiles to be subject to a future decision
Under the plan, Iran would receive:
· Removal of all sanctions
· Removal of the threat of renewing sanctions
· America to assist it in developing a civilian nuclear project for electricity production
