The pool is located at a holiday home in Punta del Este, Uruguay, belonging to Argentinian retail and real estate entrepreneur, Federico Alvarez Castillo.
Initially, many people suspected the 59-year-old was in some way responsible for the bizarre prank - which began doing the rounds on social media yesterday (Tuesday) - speculating that it may have been some kind of publicity stunt. However, Mr Castillo has denied any involvement in a post on Instagram.
The post read: "In respect of the video that is circulating on social media, I want to repudiate this act of vandalism which my family and I were victim of and clarify that when the incident happened we were inside our house and heard a loud noise in the garden.
"When we went out to see what it was, we saw the disgusting action which caused us a great deal of upset as a very, very sick joke.
"For this reason we repudiate these types of actions and we are working towards clarifying what happened as soon as possible."
It is thought that the animal was dead when it was dropped from the chopper, however, Mr Castillo's model wife Lara Bernasconi told local media that it was in fact a lamb.
Speaking to local media, she said: "Someone threw a lamb from a helicopter. We don't have anything to do with this situation."
In the video, the animal seems to clearly be a pig, though in some freeze frames it seems more plausible that the animal could have been a lamb or sheep.
It is unclear whether police are investigating the matter at this stage.
