Former Flat Earth Believers Explain The Reasons They Changed Their Minds

Wake up, sheeple

A number of former Flat Earthers have been revealing what finally made them see the light and lose their beliefs.

Whilst it should be enough that scientists have been saying - and empirically proving - that the world is round for millennia now, there's a growing number of people who refuse to believe the truth.

Instead, they do their 'research' through watching poorly filmed - and even more poorly conceived - YouTube videos, and assuming that the rest of the 'sheeple' out there are simply being hoodwinked by some shady organisation or other.

Of course, that's not all Flat Earth believers. In fact, they can't even agree amongst themselves on the particulars of the situation, they just know that evidence based science is wrong, and they're right.

Now, some of them are speaking out on Reddit about how they lost that belief and came around to the accepted view shared by the rest of us 'globeheads'.

An inquisitive mind took to Reddit to ask converted Flat Earth followers why they changed their mind, and the answers are quite illuminati.

Wait, not illuminati, illuminating.

The tale of one such convert went thusly: "I have an acquaintance I met in the Navy, who joined specifically so he could see that the Earth was flat while at sea.

"Every day he would chart the ship's location, speed, heading, etc so he could make a map of their path.

"Ultimately, he realised that the path the ship was taking would be impossible if the earth was flat."

Another former adherent said: "I fell in and out of the belief over time until I saw a video of an experiment where one group flew a helicopter far out over the ocean and another group watched it with a powerful telescope as it slowly lowered to the horizon.

"It disappeared behind the horizon while the helicopter was still a considerable distance from the ground. That ended that phase for me for good."

A third said: "My Mum and I both came to the conclusion that the Flat Earth doesn't adequately explain many of the things we observe on earth.

"For example, we know there are two hemispheres of stars that can be observed from the earth, in the northern and southern sky.

"It's been well-documented throughout history. But if the Earth is flat, wouldn't we see only one hemisphere of stars from any point on the earth?"

Why indeed?

However, it's not only science that can shift a truculent and flawed belief. It turns out that politics can do the trick as well.

One final story explained: "My husband got trapped in a YouTube black hole of Flat Earth videos for a while. Drove me up a wall.

"As of recently I discovered he changed his mind. His reasoning? He discovered the majority of Flat Earthers are Trumpers with extreme political views. Husband's Flat Earth ideas died that day."

Well, as with many things in life, it's a simple matter of common sense.
