Man Sends 'Creepy' Text To Woman After Getting Her Number From Dog Collar

A woman was left horrified after a complete stranger sent her a text from her number off her dog's collar.

The woman had been out walking her pooch when a man stopped her and asked if he could pet the dog, which she allowed.

However, she was left reeling when she later got a text message from out of the blue by the bloke who had seemingly made a note of her number.

In a screenshot shared to Reddit, the man starts by thanking her for letting him stroke the dog before suggesting they should spend some time together.

The man wrote: "Hey, I got your phone number from your dog's collar. Thanks for letting me pet her. We should hang out."

After she - understandably - ignored the first text, the man appeared to lose his temper, writing: "Hello?"

Followed by: "Why do you even have your number on her collar if you don't want people to text you? What the f*** such a tease."

Presumably this guy has never had a pet, or realised that it's perfectly normal to have your contact details on your pet's collar in case they go missing.

Meanwhile, what is not perfectly normal is taking those details without asking and then getting in touch to 'hang out'.

As you can imagine, fellow Reddit users were left feeling creeped out by the messages, with one person commenting: "That is next level creep."

Another wrote: "Wait guys, actually this is a huge deal, some men will memorise your address and phone number and stalk you.

"If you're getting bad vibes or they're looking at your dog's collar for a bit too long, you need to leave."

While a third person said the same thing had happened to them.

"I had that happen to me in Austin," they wrote.

"It was super creepy."

Last year a woman from the UK was sent 'creepy' messages by a city sightseeing bus tour worker, who she claims got hold of her details from a Test and Trace form.

Kat Kingsley provided her personal details in case she needed to be contacted, after going on the tour in September last year, but was shocked to receive a message from one of the tour guides who told her she had been 'living in his head' and called her 'gorgeous'.

A Department of Health and Social Care spokesperson said: "The unauthorised use of customers' information provided for contact tracing is unacceptable and every business must comply with all data protection legislation."
