A mum was arrested after pretending to be her 13-year-old daughter and going to her school for the day.

Casey Garcia, from El Paso, Texas, wanted to prove that the security at her child's school was not up to scratch, so dyed her hair and dressed up as the teenager.

The 30-year-old filmed her day, attending classes as Julie would, and interacting with teachers and staff at Garcia-Enriquez Middle School.

Following the stunt, the mum was arrested for criminal trespassing, tampering with government records and an unrelated traffic violation.

She was later released on a $7,808 bond.

In the footage, which was posted to her YouTube channel, Ms Garcia, wearing a yellow hoodie, says before entering the school: "Do I look like a seventh grader? 'No? Cool, awesome."

Walking through the hallway, she bumps into a couple of people, remarking that she feels 'really scared' about getting caught.

Ms Garcia then heads off to class, with one teacher calling her 'Julie', before taking part in a PE lesson.

It wasn't until the final period of the day that a teacher noticed she wasn't who she had claimed she was.

In another video, Ms Garcia explained her reasons for doing what she did, saying that it wasn't for 'likes' or to cause a problem for the school.

She said: "I didn't do this to ruffle any feathers, I didn't do this to out the school, because I was never going to say what school district or what school it was, they put that out there themselves."

Adding: "We need better security at our schools, this is what I tried to prove, and I don't mean to be curt but I kind of feel like I proved it.

"I think the deal breaker for me was actually walking in and posing as a seventh grader. I mean I'm no spring chicken, but it wasn't hard and I made it to all seven periods."

She also claimed that teachers were more worried about her phone than the fact she was a fully-grown woman impersonating a child.

Ms Garcia said: "It was, 'Hey, put your phone away'. I was not a name, I was not a person, I was 'Hey put your phone away'."

According to the El Paso County Sheriff's office, the incident was first reported to them on 1 June.

San Elizario Schools Superintendent Jeannie Meza-Chavez told KTSM: "While there was a breach in security by an individual associated as a parent with the school... we want to assure you that our security measures are being reviewed and evaluated.
