A 62-year-old man was buried alive for four days before police heard a harrowing cry for help.

The discovery was made while officials were investigating the case of a 74-year-old woman who was found dead in her Moldova home on 13 May.

Watch below:

Forensic specialists determined at the scene that her body was subject to multiple wounds.

During that same day, an 18-year-old man was arrested in his property, which was located in the same village of Ustia.

Amid questioning, the individual gave contradictory and confusing statements to police as their suspicions were further raised.

While searching the area, they heard a disturbing noise coming from beneath the surface.

After searching high and wide, police located an area nearby the suspect's home.

They started digging in and around the spot where the noise was coming from and noticed a makeshift basement hidden by soil.

Video footage shows the elderly man being pulled out of the soil with a neck wound.

The man, who was still conscious, told police that on 11 May, he and the teenager were drinking together not long before an argument took place.

He claims that the 18-year-old then allegedly wounded him, locked him in the basement, and covered the area with soil.

Officers also suspect the young man of murdering the elderly woman on 12 May.

The suspect remains in police custody and is being investigated for murder and attempted murder.

If found guilty of the crimes, he faces life in prison.

Meanwhile, the 62-year-old is receiving treatment in hospital.

“She was a very decent woman, no one ever had any problems with her," a local said of the woman who was found dead in her home.
