What Epstein wanted to do with $288m fortune as will signed two days before his death made public

He signed the will on 8 August, 2019

Two days before he took his own life in prison, Jeffrey Epstein wrote up a will which dictated how his fortune would be divided up.

The convicted sex offender died in his New York prison cell on the morning of 10 August, 2019, before he could face trial for sex trafficking charges levied against him. He had signed a will which detailed how he wanted his estate to be distributed just a couple of days prior - and the details of it have now been made public for the first time.

It comes amid the release of more than three million documents related to the complex Epstein case on Friday (30 January) by the US Department of Justice.

In the will, which appears to have been finalised at the eleventh hour on 8 August, 2019, the disgraced financier explained he wanted a range of his relatives, friends, employees, and associates to benefit in the event of his death.

Epstein's lawyer Darren Indyke and his accountant Richard Kahn both signed it in the days following his sudden death.

The 66-year-old planned for his $288million fortune and the range of luxury properties he owned across the globe to be split between at least 44 different beneficiaries.

His last-known girlfriend (apart from his associate Ghislaine Maxwell) Karyna Shuliak was set to receive a hefty $50million chunk of this, as well as a 33-carat diamond ring 'flanked by baguette-cut diamonds mounted in platinum'. However, she would only receive this flashy piece of jewellery 'in contemplation of marriage', according to a handwritten message on the will which was written by Epstein.

Epstein also requested that Shuliak received 'all of his loose diamonds', which tallied up to 48 in total.

Shuliak, a dentist who hails from Belarus, also stood to gain a fair bit of real estate, as Epstein entrusted her with taking over his infamous island Little Saint James and his Zorro Ranch estate. He also left her his New York townhouse, as well as homes in Paris and Florida.

The will also explained that Epstein's attorney Indyke was supposed to receive a sum of $25million, the Daily Mail reports.

His former girlfriend and socialite Ghislaine Maxwell - who is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence - would be given $10million too, as would his brother Mark Epstein and his longtime pilot Larry Visoski.

The names of other beneficiaries were redacted in the documents, but a number of 'she's' were each awarded several millions by Epstein. A host of his employees were also set to receive millions.

Vehicles, aircraft, boats and his art collection were also set to be distributed among those listed in the will, but Epstein's wishes were never granted.

Instead, his assets were passed onto a trust and the money has since been used to compensate his victims, as well as paying for legal fees and taxes. According to the latest evaluation, there is just $127million left over from Epstein's estate.

An array of lawyers representing Epstein's alleged victims had previously vowed to go after the cash in wake of his death, including attorney Lisa Bloom.

She told Sky News in 2019: "Give his entire estate to his victims. It is the only justice they can get. And they deserve it. And on behalf of the Epstein victims I represent, I intend to fight for it."
