It has emerged that Cristiano Ronaldo's private jet crashed while trying to land in Barcelona.
The Real Madrid player was not on board the £15 million plane when the crash happened at El Prat airport on Monday, with the plane's landing gear breaking on impact and a runway at the airport having to be closed.
The 31-year-old footballer often rents his Gulfstream G200, which he bought last year, out to private clients. Nobody aboard the plane was seriously hurt, however, the pilot was treated for minor injuries.
A source close to Ronaldo told The Mirror: "The plane is normally rented by companies and it was in use by one of them.
"Cristiano Ronaldo, his family or friends were not on the plane. The incident had no major consequences."
Ronaldo was in Germany ahead of Real Madrid's Champions League match with Borussia Dortmund when the crash happened. The game ended 2-2 with the Portuguese striker opening the scoring in the game.
