Earlier this week, news broke that US gold medal-winning swimmer Ryan Lochte and his teammate Jimmy Feigen were held up at gunpoint in Rio, along with fellow swimmers Gunnar Bentz and Jack Conger.

Yesterday, Rio police released a statement claiming that they found little evidence the robbery happened and that officers had been out to seize their passports so they couldn't leave Brazil without further questioning. Lochte had already returned to the USA by this point, however.

Police are now backing up their claims by saying that Lochte's wallet showed up on an X-ray AFTER he reported it as stolen, according to the Mail.

Pictures taken at the entrance to the Olympic Village do seem to show Lochte and Feigan with all their belongings. The surveillance footage was taken at 7am, which is three hours after they alleged the robbery happened.

Police also claim that the athletes made contradictory statements and that their story quickly unravelled under questioning. As well as this CCTV footage from the petrol station where Lochte claims he went, where there appears to be no sign of him.

Weird one this - I'm sure there's plenty more to follow.
