He suffered fatal compression injuries caused by the machinery after he was loaded into the rubbish truck along with the contents of the bins.

Piotrowski had climbed into and fallen asleep inside a commercial waste bin, the Irish Mirror reports.

Linus Phipps, who was driving the truck, told the inquest: "I thought I saw out of the corner of my eye a set of legs. I thought it was a mannequin at first as that would be quite common.

"But I got a bad feeling it was a body. When Mr Andrews [Phipps' colleague] moved the rubbish, he spotted shoes and socks and said he got "the fright of his life".

The pair then called emergency services but it was too late and Piotrowski died of asphyxiation.
