A family in Brazil have had an entire house stolen by burglars in Cidreira.
A report was registered on Tuesday at the local police station, with investigators having already identified suspects for the burglary in the very rural area of the country.
However, they are currently unsure of the motive of the crime. The family had no insurance and there is no legal dispute over the property.
The owners of the house located on the north coast of Rio Grande do Sul have used it as a vacation property for more than 40 years.
The area is reported have problems with crime, with objects being stolen on a daily basis. However, an entire house being the 'object' of a thief's desire is incredibly rare.
The victim of the crime told a local paper: "I do not think I was sad as much as I was surprised. I've never seen a crime of this level. It's unbelievable. We went straight to Cidreira and the only thing that remained was the foundation of the house, and the walls of the house at the back, which is masonry."
According to the neighbour of the family from whom the house was stolen, two men arrived at the site 20 days prior to the incident and said they were family. After breaking into the house, the duo put the furniture in a truck.
A day later, they hired two masons to remove the roof lining and the openings. All the wood was cut down and placed on the truck. They also took the fence and the gate.
However, the builders involved sought one of the family's neighbours in Cidreira to complain that they had not received the rest of the payment. It was then when the owner of a guest house, next to the house taken by criminals, called to report the theft.
According to the vacationer, the woman had doubts about the sudden removal of the structure but never imagined it could be an action of criminals.
