Man Is Planning To Build Boat And Sail Across Atlantic To Meet Elon Musk

He's turned his studio flat into a shipyard and is determined to make his 'crazy' dream come true

At the start of the year, many of us made a resolution, be it to shift a few pounds, cut down our cheese intake, or learn Spanish.

But Krystian Ryt decided to go a touch more ambitious, setting out to build a boat, sail across the Atlantic and meet Elon Musk.

The Pole - who moved to Manchester, UK, six years ago - has transformed his studio flat into a shipyard, and when he's not working as a machine operator, he spends his evenings building boats.

As of yet, the longest stint the 26-year-old has spent on one of his boats is five hours on the canals in Manchester; however, he hopes to make a two-month trip across the Atlantic and meet billionaire Musk at his SpaceX Starbase in Texas before the year is up.

Krystian - who has no engineering qualifications - is regularly told his dream is 'crazy', but it's not sailing solo across the Atlantic on a homemade boat that he's afraid of.

"I really am scared about a simple life," he told LADbible. "That scares me more.

"Going to work, then back to home. Same day every day - that scares me."

For Krystian, Musk is an inspiration because he is 'pushing humanity forward'.

A mundane life terrifies Krystian.

"I basically want to be the same kind of person," he explained. "To push myself forward more than the average person."

But while motivation might not be a barrier for Krystian, finances are, so he's set up a GoFundMe in a bid to bring in the cash needed to build his boat - setting a goal of £69,000 ($81,000).

"It's specifically that number because Elon Musk is always talking about funny numbers like 420 and 69," Krystian said. "But also, it's a really expensive idea."

Once he has the money to build the boat - which will be his fifth construction - he anticipates that it will take two months to put together and prepare, and a further two months to make the huge voyage.

As far as he's concerned though, it's a question of when, not if.

He even built a 6ft 9ins mockery of Jeff Bezos' New Shepard rocket.

He said: "I have only one life, and I know if I drop this idea now, a year after I will be thinking about this. After five years, I will still be thinking about the same thing. After 20 years, I will be thinking about this same moment in my life when I dropped this idea.

"I believe if I do what I have to do - and also if I survive - I will be a much more full person."

And if he does, he has no doubt about whether Musk would be waiting for him on the other side.

"He's a different kind of billionaire," Krystian said.

"He likes speaking to people on Twitter, and an average person can ask him a question and many times he responds to them.

"He's a very open person. So I believe he will definitely hear about me. Many people in Texas know about me. They're basically waiting for me."
